A Sunday at Greenwood United Methodist Church starts out with Alan and Carolyn holding a morning 10 o' clock adult bible study.
This Sunday Sally and June came and we all sat and studied the lesson The Lord Gives Wisdom from Wesley. Our common sense and God's will: do you think they are one? We talked of how our common sense gets formed with upbringings and more. Then the nudges we get from God contrary to our 'common sense'? It was a short lesson but it had made us think. I thought how the ladies all wore meaningful little dangly and snug earrings to shine their looks for God's glory today. I asked when they got their ears pierced and it was a long time ago. The ladies joked on how they rather scared of getting the earrings changed at first so much so that they even had to have their daughters do it for them! 11 o' clock was coming near and we hustled to the sanctuary. Pastor Charles and Joan, his loved wife was away on vacation and this week Alan and Carolyn also took charge of the sermon. We had good expectations for they are faithful servants and believers of the Lord Jesus.
Service was to start at 11. People started coming in. Philip our screen operator and service helper came and seated himself. He is a modest faithful young man who is dedicated. Laura, Bonnie, then Nancy and Joe who takes charge of VBS every year and this year 2021 as well at our church quietly seated themselves or were already in their seats. Paul comes in, Renee and then Dan, Angela's family with Garette a youth and their three little boys, Eli, Lane and Seth walked in. Then Ms. Chris, also a very old member of the church came in.
That was our congregation for August 1st, 2021.
The service was on the love of God and on the demands of love (not oppressive but enlightening!) on us from God. The service that started with a chanting call to worship peaked with a panel like format of a layman's sermon. It consisted of a video impactful and succinct on the theme of Love and a paired up lecture by Alan and Carolyn delivered like a forum afterwards. The opening prayer by June was a beautiful overture of the service and detailed petition to the Lord. Joe's Scripture reading was deep, sound and pious.
Eli, Lane and Seth under the care of an adult designated for each separate week had a carefully chosen lesson for this week. This week their mother and Nancy with snacks awarded led them in their lesson.
Service was done. People chatted briefly here and there. I noted a lot of blue toned garments in the sanctuary today and it looked cool, refreshing and clean in contrast with the bit of wet weather we had earlier in the morning. A cordial friendly sight and very promising.
Laura and Carolyn I think got to the offering plate to take care of the monetary affairs of church for the week and chores were done by congregation.
I went out to the fellowship table room that leads out to the parking lot. Angela waited for Nancy to discuss the boys' teaching works while chatting with her husband and kids and Garette. Angela has goats and animals on her farm. She is studying to be nurse as well. She wants to be a midwife she says, delivered a lot of baby animals, she said and she loves it. Call the Midwives! She loved the series.
People go out of the front door abd some out this door. I know Ms. Sally went out in the front. I used to walk with her to her car after service before I started waiting out to see people before I leave.
VBS affair, children's work. Nancy finishes her call for her service and leaves with Ms. Chris and Joe.
Alan and Carolyn locks up the door. They drive away.
The church looks secure and glistening sacred in the light that our Lord had given to all of us and in this small church we had served Him today ! This blessed church that Jesus had given to our individual and lone paths we suffer for His Love and Embrace.
I missed Joan's hug today!
